In our rural communities of Wyoming and Nebraska we know that small businesses should hold a place of reverence for us all. Amazon is great but the health of our local business is more important than convenience. In my experience our local shopkeepers will go out of their way to give more customer service and convenience than Amazon and the other big box stores could ever dream of, lines of credit for the ranch, leaving parts out for an after-hours pick up, the local laundry lady sewing on a extra button without even asking, the local bookstore ordering a special copy and pre-wrapping it for a last minute Christmas present, the local bakery holding their last half dozen cinnamon rolls until after feeding.
Saturday, November 26, 2022 is Small Business Saturday – a day to celebrate and support small businesses and all they do for their communities.
Founded by American Express in 2010 and officially cosponsored by SBA since 2011, Small Business Saturday has become an important part of small businesses’ busiest shopping season. Historically, reported projected spending among U.S. consumers who shopped at independent retailers and restaurants on Small Business Saturday reached an estimated $23.3 billion according to the 2021 Small Business Saturday Consumer Insights Survey commissioned by American Express.
So tell us what are you shopping for and where are you headed Saturday? After the chores of course!
